I have to get rid of my XP Pro because I cannot activate
it. However, I do have my original XP Home which I bought
and have license for and that I can activate. Can I load
Home XP over Pro XP? I believe there is a clause in the
software someplace in the loading process to replace the
existing OS.

You cannot "downgrade."
You will want to reformat and do a clean-install.

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if you could do a system restore ?? I
don't think there a roll back from Pro.

I wonder if this would work or does the upgrade wipe out
the restore file ??

Starting System Restore Tool from Command Prompt
Start your computer to Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

NOTE: You must log on as the administrator or a user that
has
administrator rights.
At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32
\restore\rstrui.exe,
and then press ENTER.
Follow the instructions on the screen to begin restoring
your computer
to a previous, functional state.

Don't think System Restore will work in this case. A program cannot be used
to get rid of itself!

No. If you have had Pro installed, you have to remove it before you can
install Home - which in practice means backing up data, formatting the
disk as a part of the new setup and starting over.. Read Gary
Woodruff's article on Files and settings Transfer at
http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm which may help in retaining settings
and so on
