I am using Windows XP Home. I find the computer starts up quite slowly. My another computer with similar specification using Windows XP Pro starts up much faster (only a half time). Is this normal?
Home has less code to execute and thus faster. Pro more code and executes
slower on the same machine.
Check your startup folder to see what all you have coming up on boot up.

There could be a Trojan on the "slow" machine or just a
bloated startup list?
Standard actions, defrag, clear cache, cleanup the start
menu, close down processes, scan for viruses and ad/spyware.

There are differences in how the two companies setup similar
computers. The speed of the hard drive might be different,
see your specs on the two machines. IBM may have included a
lot more software that is starting and running as a process.
You can get SiSoft's Sandra or Bel Arc's Advisor and see
what software is installed. AIDA32 is also a very good
program for this too. All are free. AIDA32 development has
stopped but you ca download the latest and last version,
Google will find all of these for you.
There also could be other reasons, but I would guess that
different hard drive speeds and startup programs makes the
difference.
