When I open IE the home page is www.safetydefender.com. Calls itself "Online
Security". Says I am controlled by 227.4.167.118. Then says,
\windows\system 32\Program Files\Internet Explorer\My Documents Drive
C:\files. It says I have a virus Mozilla/4.0. I've gone into Tools and
changed the home page to start.earthlink.net, which will load. Still,
anytime I click on IE from desk top, I get the above. I've run spyware
Spybot, and Earthlink TotalAccess complete scans. The problem is that the
"safetydefender" wants me to buy their programs to eliminate their virus.
Vicious circle. Any ideas how to eliminate the above? I've done the Search,
found it and deleted it, but it still comes back. Thanks.

Worked for me just download the smitrem.exe and then extract and run
the RUNTHIS.bat.

You are infested with malware.
