Home-page switching virus

I seem to have a virus on my system (Windows XP, Internet
Explorer 6) that re-sets my home page to a commercial
site. Is there any way to stop this?

Sounds like spyware. Run these tools:
spybot -- http://www.safer-networking.org/
ad-aware -- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

It's likely a browser hijacking bit of adware/spyware rather than a virus.
The free version of AdAware will probably remove it for you, along with a
boatload of other stuff you didn't realize was sitting on your HDD the first
time you run it: http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
