Home Page select option disabled

For about a year, my Home Page designation option has been
disabled ("grayed out")...I assumed my computer was
attacked causing the problem, but the home page
was "locked" on MSN.com...all other options function, so
it really wasnt a big problem to me. But now I need to
fix it...I've downloaded IE6, but the home page selection
is still disabled...any suggestions please. Thanks.

Note : Involved Registry editiing. Before you modify the registry, make
sure to back it up and make sure that you understand how to restore the
registry if a problem occurs.
