Was wondering what is recommended by microsoft for
communicating between various operating systems on a home
network. You can get to the internet but you cannot see
all the computer in a network with a simple hub unless you
install NETBEUI. Microsoft says they no longer support
this protocol and it is in a directory on the XP install
CD, but is only there to temporarily help you. OK, what is
the long term fix? My computers are working fine with XP
through Win98SE while using these files. Why is it
considered a temporary work around? What is the final fix?
Upgrade everything to XP or what?

Hi Mike,

Yes, NetBEUI is an unsupported protcol. Nothing in
Windows networking has ever required NetBEUI. To keep it
short, I suggest enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all
machines. However, this doesn't mean you cannot use it.
It just simply means that Microsoft will not give you any
support if you have problems with it.
