Home networking with XP question. Help!!

I'm helping a friend setup his new HP desktop (Windows XP HE) at home. He
currently has a Toshiba laptop (Windows XP Pro) that is connected to a
wireless Linksys router. I want to transfer some data and files from the
laptop to his new desktop. I plugged the desktop into the router and he does
have an internet connection. I joined both the laptop and desktop to a new
workgroup using the wizard setup and rebooted both machines. I can see each
other in the My Network Places\Microsoft Windows Network\Workgroup. My
probelm is I cannot access either computer going either way. I cannot see
the shares so I cannot map a drive or add to My Network Places. I get an
administrative permissions error. My question is "How do I properly share a
folder so that I can have access going either way?" I tried connecting as
administrator and still cannot. Can one of you XP experts lend a helping
hand? Much appreciated in advance. Thanks.
Allen

On the laptop, check to see if Simple File Sharing has been disabled.
Start -> Control Panel -> Folders Options. On the View tab look at the last
line. If the box is unchecked and your friend wants it kept that way, you're
going to have to create an account on the desktop that has the same user
name and password as one on the laptop. The built-in administrator accounts
can't be used to do this.
