Home Networking with Cable Modem issue

First off...
Let me say that I am new to home networking. So excuse my
lack of knowledge here.

I have a home PC running Windows XP home edition. I also
have roadrunner highspeed cable modem.

I also have a laptop for work, and I wanted to network
the two computers together to share the internet and
files.

I went out today and purchased a Linksys Wireless B
Network kit. (Router and notebook adapter)

I followed all the directions. Its currently hooked up
as follows:

Cable goes into the cable modem, network cable comes out
of hte cable modem and into the router. Another network
cable goes from the router into my ethernet plug on the
PC.

When it was all done, everything on my PC was working
fine. Internet connection was still up and running.

I then installed the wireless card on my laptop. Again,
everything went fine. I can browse the internet on my
laptop with no issues.

But now I want to share files between the 2 computers.
So i tried to run the home networking wizard from my home
PC, and it goes thru all the motions, and then "Cannot
Complete the Network Setup Wizard. An error occured
during hte configuration of the network on this computer."

No error log..no details.

Just for the hell of it, afterwards I went into Network
Neighborhood on my laptop and I CAN see the workgroup and
my home computer. But if I try to drill down to a shared
folder I get an error "There are currently no logon
servers available to serive the logon request"

My laptop is running Windows 2000 if this makes a
difference.

Chad,

is the laptop set up to log on to a domain? I guess you don't
have a domain controller at home.

Could be another known error. Please chime in, anyone, if there
could be a different, known cause.

Actually yes,
My laptop is setup to login to a NT domain for work. Is
that the issue? If so, thats fine. I just thought it
would be convenient to be able to access one another.

Chad,

I think there are a few utilities on the market that allow to
change network settings very quickly. One of them is called
Netswitcher. I don't know it and can't be sure whether it solves
your problem, but it's likely. Why don't you have a look? Check
http://www.netswitcher.com/.
