I have 2 PCs, one of which is connected to the Internet
via a USB connection into a broadband (ADSL) modem. I
wish to set up a home network and have purchased a switch
and the appropriate cabling. Reading the MS docco I
assumed I could use ICS with my curent internet connected
PC as the host. However as soon as I connect a cable into
the ethernet connection on this host, I lose the internet
connection via the USB port! It's as though the PC sees
that the network card is connected and immediately
assumes this is to be used for internet traffic.. Since
this internet connection is invaluable I have not
progressed any further.
This "conflict" has me confused: I wish to use the USB
port to connect to the internet and the ethernet card to
connect to my home network. However, as soon as I connect
any network to the ethernet card, the USB connection
drops out.. Can you explain a way forward, please.
Note:
I used to connect to the internet via the network card
but, after some difficulties, swapped to the USB
connection. Could this "dual configuration" be causing
the problem?
