I have a home network. Recently the client PC suddenly
lost its internet connection. The network card is ok
(checked in Device manager). It is sending packets.
However the host PC (which is connected to the internet)
gives the message that the network cable is not connected
(which it is).
Any clues would help. I recall a problem in the past where
it was linked to Windows giving an IP address that didn't
match - but can't remember if it had to do with my
problem. Any help - much appreciated.

Replace the cable with a known good one. Replace the network card. A network
card can fail on it's output even though it can ping itself.
Do you connect to a router, cable modem or what?

I connect through a hub to the client PC. The host is
connected to a cable modem to the outside world. The
client PC is relatively new and so I think it is likely to
be aconfiguration problem rather than a hardware one.
