Hello

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place - please direct me elsewhere if
I'm not.

I have a desktop with two network cards, a laptop with one network card, and
a broadband modem. I want to get my laptop and desktop talking to each other
and sharing an internet connection. Could anyone advise on the simplest way
to do this? What additional hardware do I need?

Many thanks in advance

just a crossover cable- connect your desktop to the broadband modem
(hopefully I right in thinking this connects via a nic) and your laptop nic
to the other desktop nic via the crossover cable setup the desktop as the
host using ICS (internet connection sharing) then pray your versions of
windows will play ball. try here for more info

Thanks, I realised this is what I should do and got hold of a crossover
cable. Having no success getting it to work however. Originally my desktop
was part of a domain (for work) which I stupidly removed. I'm getting that
configured again when I'm back in the office but in the meantime I was
trying to set up the laptop and computer to use the same workgroup. The
desktop has lan1 connected to the net, with internet sharing enabled and
lan2 connected to the laptop. Can;t connect to the internet using the
laptop. I can see the laptop from the desktop under workgroup computers but
can't access it (access denied errors etc). Newbie at this and it's quite a
hair pulling experience.
