HOME NETWORK

Hello

Recently I attempted to set up a home network that consisted of 2
computers both running Windows XP. Both computers are connected to a
belikin router to gain access to the internet. I went through the
wizard for setting up a home network on both pc's. I can sucessfully
print and share files to my PC2 in another room which is great. I can
also see my workgroup in network connections.

My problem is......when I go to netork connections on my other PC2 in
the other room and click on workgrouped computers in cant seem to find
the workgroup. It comes up with a message that say's " you might not
have the permissions to use this network resource, contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions. Or network path was not found. I tried to ping my PC2 and
it failed aswell.

The weird thing is on my PC1 I can see the workgroup, share files and
print.

Sorry if this is confusing to follow. Any help would be excellent.

Many thanks

Gary

Hi Gary. Most problems of this sort are caused by a firewall on one
or both computers. With a router that has NAT protection built in
there is a greatly diminished need to also have software firewalls on
the computers.

If shutting off software firewalls does not resolve the issue then you
should try posting this question to the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroup as that is where the
network gurus are most likely to be found.

Good luck
