Hello:

I have a home LAN with 3 computers. One of the computers crashed and I
had to reinstall Windows XP, which now works as do all applications
reinstalled, except I cannot do file or printer sharing with the other 2
computers. All 3 computers belong to the same workgroup. i've done the
Network Wizard and also setup TCP/IP WINS configuration to the Enable NetBIOS
over TCP/IP. Still, this one computer does not recognize the other twon on
the workgroup, nor does it allow me to connect to the shared printer. I have
McAfee Desktop Firewall (which never presented a problem in the past), and
the connections still don't work even when the Firewall is diabled. The
computer are hard-wire connected via a Linksys Gateway. Any help you can
provide would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi mark,
are you sure you set up the the NetworkGroup on your third computer, copy the
same setting on the other computers and Enable File and Printer sharing in
the Neighbourhood Network properties and Turn off all computers and the
Linksys then Turn them back on and see what will hapen.
The firewall try to disable first then enable it again when you established
a connection and Give permession to the other computers in the Firewall to
let them connect with Passwords assigned to each of them for your security if
you going to connect on the internet.
Hope this helps

I'm not sure I understand. How do I set up the Network Group? Also,
I'mm not sure what "Network Neighborhood" is? My apologies for being obtuse.

Hi Mark,
Sorry if the reply late but it was night here, and the correct one on XP is
My Network Places n't Neighbourhood places which on Win98,NT. On how to
setup a home network go to the these links one at a time and study them with
care after that you can implement the plan which will work;

I fixed the problem, but it was unrealted to Windows XP. My home network has
a 4-port Linksys router (BEFSX41) with a wireless/4-port Linksys router
(WRT54GS) piggy-backed on it. The computer that I couldn't connect was
connected to the 2nd router, while the other computers were connected to the
first router. When I changed the connection of the computer in question to
the same router as the others, voila!, problem disappeared. Interesting.
Thanks for your help!
