I have a small network setup at home consisting of three pc's all running
xpsp2. One of the pc's has decided it will be the DomainMaster which is the
pc that is turned off most of the time so i can't browse the other pc's thru
network neighbourhood. Only way to connect is to type \\name in the run box.
I have tried changing the registry entries that supposedly control this
behaviour but this seems to have no effect.
Basically i want to make my pc the DomainMaster seen its on nearly all the
time but nothing i have tried works.

Thank you for your time.

A workgroup network like yours has a "browse master" that keeps track
of the shared disks and folders. To prevent an XP computer from
becoming the browse master, disable the Computer Browser service on
that computer.

What registry entries have you been changing?

I actually like (and recommend) using "\\name" to access another
computer. In my experience, browsing through My Network Places is
inherently unreliable, and it usually isn't worth the trouble to try
to get it to work.

This Key -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Browser\Parameters...IsDomainMaster
True or False and MaintainServerList yes or no.
Anyways these have no effect on the situation.
I have tried disabling the computer browser service on the problem pc but
this did not help.

I have disabled the computer browser service on all but one of the pc's,
this doesn't fix the problem and the pc that keeps the updated list of
shares on the network still does even tho the cb service is disabled on tht
pc.
Do you have any other ideas as to what might be causing this ?

Thank you

Good work. Please post another message and tell us how you solved the
problem. Did you do anything other than disabling the Computer
Browser service?

Thanks again and no didn't do anything special apart from what u suggested
it just took time for the events to take place. I did however do a cmd
prompt ipconfig /release and ipconfig/renew on all the pcs which is when the
network started performing as per usual.
Also could u please explain what these commands do from the command prompt .
"net config" either workstation or server.

Thanks
