Home directories

I set up home directories for each user on my network.
Yesterday, the network started to go down every 15
minutes and users lost access to the PDC, even though
they could still browse the network. Today the network is
back up but home directories aren't being mapped. I'm
getting the following event log frequently. Is it related?

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 30/10/2003
Time: 14:38:28
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: BABBAGE
Description:
Windows cannot access the registry information at
\\my domain\sysvol\my domain\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-
945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol with (1351).

C:\>net helpmsg 1351 (tip 161 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com)

Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either
because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.

There are a few things that can cause this.

First, on the client machine that is getting this error:

- Make sure that the TCP/IP NetBIOS helper service is enabled.

- Make sure it points to an internal DNS server in TCP/IP properties

On the Domain Controllers:

- Make sure that either Authenticated Users and Enterprise Domain
Controllers or the Everyone group has been given the "Access this computer
from the network" user right in the Default Domain Controller policy.

- Make sure that the internal NIC is listed at the top of the binding order
(right click on Network Places - Properties - Advanced menu - Advanced
settings - Connections

- Disable any 3rd party software (antivirus, backup, etc.)

Also, check to see if the Domain Controllers are also getting these userenv
errors.
