Holes in pst file

Hello,

I am using Outlook 2003 for a while now, and have a question about it. The
pst file is actually a big document, in which the separate mails are stored.
If you remove a mail you get a hole in the pst file. And I mean space in the
pst-file that has no actual mail in it, but takes space on the harddrive. I
was wondering what you need to do to remove these holes from your pst file.
Am I correct in assuming the pst file is the archive of Outlook? So archiving
is not the way to go?

Michel
PS. I searched for both Outlook, 2003 and Office as newsgroup. As I could
find none, I posted this post in General

Do you know how to compact it? Right click on the Local Folders at the
top of the folder tree and then Properties and then Advanced and compact
the messages.

Use a newsreader rather than that horrible web interface.

As others said, you compact the Personal Folders
The pst 'is' your Personal Folders file containing all outlook data
The pst is a type of database file.
An archive is when you remove data from the current Personal Folders to a
specific Archive pst, by default named archive.pst

You would have to remove a significant amount of data for it to impact on
the size of the pst
