Hlep! Can't insatll SB Live card in XP Home

Hello,

I'm trying to get my Live card to work in XP Home. I installeed the card
booted up, XP found it, installed the drivers, rebooted, tried to play some
music in MediaPlayer and got

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with
your sound device . There may not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning
properly"

I checked Device Manager and there are no question marks anywhere. The Live
card IS there in Device Manager and everthing appears to be installed
correctly, but why can't I get any sound? When I goto Control Panel/Sounds
and Audio Devices Properties, "No Audio Device" appears at the top of the
Volume panel.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Jeff

Did you install the SB Live! software package (not just the drivers)?

It's a Live Gamer.
I had similar problems with my Soundblaster Live 1024 - when I
downloaded what was supposed to be the latest driver from Live Update.
When I got the correct driver from the Creative site, and updated the
driver using it - all was well again.

When I went back on Live Update and checked the applicability of the
dowloadable driver - it did not list my card! despite the fact that LU
had recommended it!

While this may not be exactly your problem - it does indicate that XP
is not always very good at identifiying and installing the correct
driver.

Recommend you get the latest driver from Creative - and try updating
with that.

Uninstalled previous software/hardware and if the previous software was
on-board, disabled it (either in bios or in control panel)?

Have you tried moving the card to a different PCI slot?

When you put the card in and started the computer, did XP recognize it?
(Task bar gave you all that 'found new hardware' stuff?).

The live gamers a nice card, good luck getting it up and running.
