Got a new Dell Dimension 2400.

When I do a "shutdown" and then manually restart again the computer
recognizes the CD R/W drive.

Whe I click the "restart' button right away, the computer restarts
automatically, as it should, but doesn't regognize R/W drive. Dell says
"Live with it". The only cure would be to do a complete system re-install.

Any opinions?

Make sure you have the latest PCI-IDE drivers. Intel, right ?

See if there is a BIOS upgrade for the CDRW.

If the above fails, call Dell Tech Support again.

You'll get a different technician and almost guaranteed, a different reply.
