I get this error when starting up. It says: "The
instruction read at "0x77a24844" referenced in memory
at "0x00000004". The memory could not be read.

You cannot access display by right clicking on the desktop
and when you go through Control Panel to Display. You
cannot access the Advanced button on the Settings tab.
When I try, I get the following message: An error
occurred while Windows was working with the Control Palen
file C:\WINNT\system32\desk.cpl. When you click the OK
button, the display applet closes.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks

You need to try going to Add/Remove Programs and removing your video driver
and then reinstall it. The file
hkcmd.exe id related to HotKey Command Module. If you cannot uninstall the
video/display driver, try manually removing Hkcmd.exe from the registry by
using these steps:

1. Click Start->Run->Input "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and click
OK.

2. Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

3. Click Registry menu->Export the registry key as backup.reg.

4. Delete the IgfxTray (if it exists) and HKCMD items in the right panel.

5. Close the registry editor and then restart the computer

If you make a mistake you can import backup.reg. If all works OK, delete
backup.reg.
