No matter what I do, my hit couter will not reset. I am
on a server with Front Page Extensions. When I want to
republish my page, overwriting the existing web, the hit
counter will not reset to a specified number. It will
NEVER reset.
Also, I have have chosen 5 fixed digits. That only shows
as space for two digits when the page is published.
However, on one of my pages, there are five digits
showing. On that page also, the hit counter will not
reset to a specified number.
What can I do?

Thanks for your help.

Open the live site in FrontPage and reset the hit counters live.

Also, on the live site you can open the _private folder and then open the
pagename.htm.cnt files in notepad and edit the entry. Do not change the
total number of digits, just edit the digits that are there. Doing it this
way, nobody can tell you've changed the count.

I've had this happen before, here's how i fixed it:

Take note of what your hit counter reads on the online version - write it down.
On your local copy, delete the hit counter.
Republish without the hit counter.
View online web to make sure it's gone.
Local copy; re-insert the hitcounter...set it to the number you wrote down.
Republish.

Works for me.
