I've been trying to insert a counter to my site all d*** day, and all I get is a tiny box with an x in it. I called my web server and he is unwilling to help me since I designed the site myself, and said to me that I can't teach you html. Ok, fine, so now what, I don't know html language and no matter what I do, I can't get a counter on my site....HELP!

give us an address to the page it's supposed to be on. the page on your
server. it's not an insurmountable problem I guarantee. plus you'll get to
find out if it's your fault or the server's.

HTH
btw you'll always get a "dead image" box like you described on your local
version (unless you're running your own server locally), it's the online one
that _should_ run.

ok, there's no hit counter there or broken link to an image. did you
publish your file(s) after you added this on your local copy?

There aren't any FrontPage extensions installed for your domain on the
server. These are required for the hit counter.
Have your host install them, or install them from your web masters control
panel if you have one.

Yes, I'm using the program WS_FTP95, which was given to me by the server, so I uploaded the file and when I went to view it, there was just that box.... I'll put it back on there so you can see what I mean. That's when he told me that I had to use one of their counters and told me to go to their site... http://home.craftech.com/support_counter.php, chose a counter, copy & paste the test into my html code. Well, that didn't work either. All that shown on the site was the code I copy and pasted.... sorry to be so much trouble, I just don't understand language. (one of the reasons I bought front page, because it writes it for you ;-)

Steve, I thought that to, but the guy told me that didn't support those extentions? I don't know what this means, that's when he told me to go to his website and get the code.....:-( I'm still lost because I don't know how to do html

A-ha! Ok, I finally understand... apparenlty the server didn't understand my question, but the deal is that he has to change my server so that it supports front page extentions, just like Steve said. .... thanks all for your patience and understanding.... much appreciated

Once the FrontPage extensions are installed, insert your hit counter in your
page.
Then when you publish, you *must* with your local web open in FrontPage,
select File > Publish Web...
and enter http://www.sweedie.net/ as the location to publish to.

Do *not* use WS_FTP95 or any other FTP method to publish your site as it
will break the extensions and the counter won't work.

Kim,
I say this in the kindest way possible:
get a new host. you can host with me: http://nedp.net/hosting
or you can get tons of recommendations by reading this board but a good
windows server with proper FrontPage extensions will alleviate all kinds of
problems.
IMHO

Have you tried going to the menu bar and selecting:
--Insert
--Web Component
--Hit Counter
and then selecting on of the counter options. It works
for me real easy.
