Hit Counter Does Not Retain Reset Value

I'm finding that when I reset the hit counter value, some web pages, after
publication do not retain the new value. Is there a way to fix this
problem?

Open your live site and reset the counters live.
Don't forget to Save the pages.
Then open your local web, open the _Private folder and mark all of the files
named pagename.htm.cnt as "Do not publish"
