History not working properly

I have XP Home edition and recently the results I gain by clicking on the History button have changed.

when I click on the list button I am given 4 choices:
By Date
By site
By most visited
By order visited today

The only one that has any info is "By most visited" this is annoying. can anyone help, please.
I have not changed any settings.
Interestingly, somehow my temporary internet files mysteriously began to erase themselves . I don't exactly know when this started buy I appears that both problems may be related.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Hi Boots,

Empty your Temporary Internet Folder and your history in Control Panel
Internet Options and reboot.
It may be temporary.

If this continues:

First go to Windows
Explorer, Tools > Folder options > View tab , tick 'show all hidden
and system files.'

Then go to the folder Windows\Inf, look for the file ' ie' right-click
it and select 'install,' it will ask for your Windows XP CD.

Hi boots

Yes, you change the registry and then download IE SP1 and let it
install itself, as if you were doing an update.

Or you can go to Windows Explorer > Folder Options > View tab and
check 'Show all hidden and system files.'

Then go to the Windows\Inf folder, locate the ie file, right-click on
it and choose install. It will ask for the Windows XP CD, and you may
need to know the location of the dllcache folder and i386 folder.

(Or if and when it asks for the disk just tell it to continue, it will
do a partial repair and could solve your problem)

Good luck
