Highlighting a phase and replace them while typing

Hi,

By default, when I click and drag to highlight a phase of words, when I type
something again, it will automatically delete the phase of words I
highlighted and replace with the words I typed.

But, not sure what I did, not doing the same, it will not replace the words
but instead insert the words I typed. Even when I trigger the over-write
command, it just over-write the first letter, and unhighlight the rest of the
phase leaving it untouched.

Can anyone advise me on how to resume it back to the default style, cuz I
have also attempt to re-install the words, but the same situation occurs.

Tools > Options > Edit > check "Typing replaces selection".
