highlight a field in a block letter that doesn't show printed

Here's my problem: I've got a block letter that I have certain data that will
need to be changed each time I print the letter. I'd like to have those data
places highlighted so that it's easily seen what needs to be changed.
However, I don't want to be able to see the highlighted parts when I print
the document out. is there a way to do this?

Hi Crystal,

If you use a FILLIN field (See Insert|Field), with Word set to update fields at print time, Word will cycle through all the fields,
prompting you for an update. If the data for a given FILLIN field need to be repeated throughout the document, simply bookmark the
FILLIN field, then use Insert|Cross-Reference to link the subsequent occurrences to the FILLIN field's bookmark.

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out how this works. Can
you give me step-by-step instructions perhaps? What I'm trying to do is this:
in a form letter, I've got the person's name and address at the top of the
letter. Then at the Dear _____ and throughout the letter their name would be
used. I want to create the document so that when someone else uses this
letter, then can easily see where all changes need to be made before they
print the letter out. Is this possible?

If the letter is meant to remain unchanged except for details like name & address and maybe a few small blocks of text (including
choices from prepared text options), you might do best to use the Form approach (Item 2. On Line Form),
