High-resolution web wallpaper

I have a desktop PC running Windows XP Home SP2. Most of the default
Windows wallpaper images have dimensions of only 800x600. Those images look
really lame on my 19 inch LCD monitor, which has a resolution setting of
1280 by 1024 pixels.

So I downloaded a nice high-resolution image (1600x1200) off the
Internet. Then I used IrfanView to sharpen it a bit. The difference is
amazing. Finally a wallpaper pic that can take advantage of my monitor's
capabilities. However, this JPEG image is 1.7MB in size, much larger than
the default XP wallpaper photos. Are there any drawbacks to using such a
big file image? Does it matter at all?

Yes, load time. If the time does not bother you, don't worrie about it.
Your video card has a lot more work with a high def picture. Matter of if
you think it slows you down to much.

I haven't noticed any drag yet. My computer is fairly new (5 months)
with a 256MB video card, so I would think it could handle the extra load.
