My hidserv.exe is missing and when I try to start it I get error 2: the
system cannot find the file specified. Where can I find hidserv.exe to
download?

What is the history of your Windows operating system? Have you
upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98?

Hope this helps.

Is any programme failing at the time this error appears?

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Reports in the System and
Application logs for the time the error occurs and post copies.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

I don't think so. The problem I am trying to fix is I just bought a new USB
Plantronics headset. Hidserv is needed to use the controls on it. The only
error I get is when I try to start the service.

Where did you get the supporting software from? Was it a CD? Was there
an option you missed when installing the software? You need to either select
an option for Windows XP or you have old software which needs updating.
You may need to uninstall and reinstall the software through Add / Remove
Programs.

I found this:
http://www.plantronics.com/europe_union/en_GB/support/index.jhtml

Click on Knowledge Base and search using the keywords "hidserv Windows
XP" without the quotes.

There is an email option where you can ask questions on the site. Make you
sure you mention your model number.
