Hiding Taskbar

Using WinXP pro, my Taskbar frequently gets stuck at the bottom of the
screen and refuses to go away, although I have 'Auto hide Taskbar' checked
in the properties.

Any ideas as to how I could teach it to go away to its proper place when not
needed?
