Hiding Subforms in Design View

When in design view, Access shows the subforms. Sometimes this is fine but
other times I would like to see the white, blank shape of the subform. Is
there a way to stop the subforms from populating the main form? Thanks in
advance for any help.
 
AFAIK, there is no way to change this behavior in Access 2000 and later.

In A2003, you can right-click the subform control to open it in its own
window. Then the orignal form shows the white rectangle for the subform, but
you have to do that each time.
