Hide inactive programs under Start?

When I point to "All Programs" under Start, I would like
to hide all inactive folder/programs, so I don't have to
scroll down or have 3 collumns. I believe there was an
option in Win2000. I am on XP Home Edition on Normal
Start menu view (NOT Classic Start Menu view).

That's not what I meant.

Let's take the exemple of MS Word. When you click on
File, you get a number of sub directory (like New
document, Open, Save As.....), some are hidden. If you
wait a few second, the hidden ones appears.

That's what I want under Start===>All Programs.

Right-click on the folder you wish to hide, select
properties. In the box that appears, put a tick in the
box next to hide.
Click on apply - This will hid the folder from view.

If you later wish to access it, right-click on 'All
Programs', select explore and then via tools/options,
untick the hide folders option and you'll be able to
access or modify the hidden folders properties.
