Hidden folders

D

Dave Heath

On 9/8/03 I asked how to solve a problem with hidden
folders. The reply I receieved I had already done all the
task. I still have a set of hidden folders that I can not
see while in Frontpage (ONLY FP). Since I want to move
these folders I can't in FP. Please email me a solution. I
ahve done everything that I know to solve this problem. I
have even placed shared on each folder while in XP OS.
That still does not make them available in FP. Yes the
view option in FP is on. Yes they are under a viewable
folder already.

Still can not se them in FP. HELP!!

Thanks for your time.

If you can't see the folders in FP, then they are not meant to be seen while
in FP, and you can't change the way FP has been programmed.

Now these are normally the _vti folders, also FP can not see virtual folders
create within IIS.

If you are referring to a "thicket" - created when converting a MSo document
to a web page - where a page is created, say page.htm, along with a folder
named page_files, then FP2002 and later will hide the folder whatever
settings are made in Windows Explorer.
The only solution I have seen is as follows (some of these steps you will
have already done):
In Windows Explorer Tools - Folder Options - Managing Pairs of Web pages and
folders - select Show both parts and manage them individually
Close FP
In Windows explorer browse to the page.htm and drag the page_files folder to
the desktop
rename page_files to some other name, say "pages" - Acknowledge the warning
about breaking the connection between page and folder, but go ahead anyway.
Open FP and your web.
Tools - Recalculate Hyperlinks
File - Import
Browse to your desktop and select the pages folder.
OK
Move the newly imported folder to wherever it should be, if imported to
wrong place.
Reports - Broken Hyperlinks
Correct the broken links

An MVP has posted a slightly easier method, but I cannot find that post, or
recall his name - it was about 6 months ago.
