Hidden files in Recycle Bin

WOW! That's pretty harsh. Despite your suspicions, I am
telling the truth.

My son is only 11! I deleted (to the Recycle Bin) some of
his files because he used to have his own user profile,
which he's since removed. My computer has been slow since,
and I can only shut down from the Welcome Screen now
instead of from the Start menu. I deleted his Windows
Messenger contact list by accident while trying to fix the
problem.

Like I said, when I click Empty the Recycle Bin, it tells
me there are 16 files there, and my icon indicates it's
full. They are invisible...ie if I click on the Bin it
looks like it's empty. And I can't Restore them. This has
happened before, but I knew what I had put there, and
wanted to Empty them anyway.

If anyone wants to help without accusing me of lying, I
would appreciate it.

Terri-I call bullshit. I have never heard of any problem
like this. My guess is you want to look at something
someone else deleted on the system. So be it. There are
plenty of file recovery programs out there. Look on cnet
or tucows (.com). Good luck.
the Bin, I've also tried clicking Edit, Select All, then
Restore All Items.

I've also tried using FAQ on the Windows XP site and

files on my Desktop. The "lost" files are rather important
ones of my son's. I'm always telling him not to delete
things, 'cause I got tired of constantly fixing the
computer! ;o) I'm hoping I can fix this before he gets
home from school tomorrow and wants to use it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The recycle bin has become corrupt and it is probably the info2 file that is
stuck in there. That never actually shows in the bin, but it is the file that
tracks the original locations of the files that have been deleted. hen the RB
is emptied that file should also be deleted. It is easier to rebuild the RB
than it is to correct that problem.
Boot to a DOS prompt (Command line only)
from the C:\> prompt type
deltree c:\recycled
press <Enter>
If you have more than one hard drive or you have other logical partitions then
you will have to do the same for those with the exception that you have to
change the drive letter. For example, for the second hard drive or partition
(D) the command would be
deltree d:\recycled
When you restart the computer the Recycle Bin will be rebuilt.

This usually clears by the following. Delete some minor unwanted file
to the bin, then r-click the Bin Icon, without opening it , and take
Empty bin from the menu.

'Full' BTW means no more than that there is at least one file in it -
not that it will not take more
