Hi,

I hope someone can help me on the following:

I work for a govt agency who wants us to configure settings where the
end user doesn't see hidden files. We went ahead and did but found out
that it only applies to the system administrator account not for any
other users/profiles.

Me and my fellow IT staff can't figure a way to apply "Do Not Show
Hidden Files" for other profiles. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

You should research the Windows Resource Kit (including the Group Policy
Editor) for Windows XP, and also the various client lockdown facilities
such as the Shared Computer Toolkit
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sharedaccess/default.mspx).

We don't show hidden files. infact hidden files and system files are
hidden by default.

The only change I wanted to make to our build was for the file extension
to be showing, to do this I created a user (user1) logged him on so
he got a profile. changed the relevant setting in tools
folder options and view.

Rebooted then logged on as someone with Admin rights. I then copied the
ntuser.dat file from the user1 profile to the 'Default User' profile
folder.

Now whenever a new profile is created it will have the setting to show the
file extension.

You could do something similar with hidden and system files. Then there is
probably a group policy that will prevent users from changing the view
settings.
