The Old Timer

Is my understanding of hibernation incorrect? I have been having my PC
doing a long download only to find that it suddenly hibernates. I have
even had the machine go to sleep while only part way through doing a job
like rendering a video file etc. Is this supposed to happen or is it
more likely that I had an incorrect setting?

Hello,

Hibernation is when your computer closes down with everything stored in it's
hard drive, so when you open it, it restores to the previos state it was in
before you put the computer into hibernation mode. So if you computer shuts
down automatically then it is going into hibernation.

However if you move your mouse and the computer (monitor rater) turns back
on then it's just probably in your monitor, with happens when your computer
isn't being used. Or it might be going into standby mode if you've enabled
it.

And if only your monitor is going blank... if you haven't touched your
computer then it is completely normal. If you want to change these settings
however you can always do it by Start > Control Panel > Performance and
Maintenance > Then click on 'Power Options'.
