Hibernation progress bar not showing after updating display driver

I have an on-board Intel(R) 82865G Graphics (Intel Extreme Graphics 2)
controller.
Because of the threat of a harddisk failure, I had to reinstall
Windows-XP on a new HD. Reinstallation of the graphics drivers with
the "Intel(R) Chipset Inf Update Program" in the ASUS Motherboard CD,
installed the older driver dated 12/16/2003, and I updated it to the
driver dated 9/20/2005, downloaded from the Intel site. Everything has
been working OK, except the following:

When I put the puter into "hibernation", the window displaying
"Preparing to Hibernate" comes up, but the monitor switches off
immediately, without showing the hibernation Progress Bar.

As a result, I have to wait for the power light to go off and fans to
stop before switching off power from the UPS. If I am not alert, I
might end up switching it off before Windows has properly shut down.
Is there a way to bring back the Progress Bar display? Or, should I
roll-back to the earlier driver?
I have already Googled for a solution, but could find none.
Thanks in advance for any help.
