Hibernation in Vista Ultimate

E

Edward

I've been searching for an answer to this one on Google for days to no avail.
It seems many people have the same issue. For some reason Windows Vista
does not stay in the powered off state after hibernating and when it comes
back it tends to crash.

I've seen some fixes for our favorite blue screens, but nothing for making
the system STAY hibernated.

I've got a brand new AMD64 system with Windows Vista Ultimate. When I click
the power button the system goes through the motions of hibernating and shuts
down. 2 seconds later it starts back up and resumes.

I've verified that all wake-on attributes in the bios are cleared.
Hibernation is apparently an area that wasn't tested internally, hopefully a
fix is available now that so many people are reporting issues.

You arte seeing the 'restart on error' problem. Something in shutdown for
hibernation is throwing an error. This will be listed in the Event Viewer.

start/type:
eventvwr.msc

You are probably going to see some filename associated with the error, and
rightclicking that file will show what device it is a driver for. You may
have some driver corruption problem, or some conflict with a recent Update
for Windows.

Looked at that page, didn't have much troubleshooting help. Thanks for the
link though!

I cleared my event logs and tried hibernation. I see no drivers in error.
Only DnsApi and Time-Service warnings in the System log. One error there
from GroupPolicy:

The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network
connectivity to a domain controller.

Application log is clear. Security log had some Windows Firewall
notification warnings.

All in all it looks normal. :s
