HI Speed Enhanced Controller

I know others have posted similar about that little message that says your
hardware will perform better if its plugged into USB 2.0 port. I'm way beyond
the basics here having spent a month on this solution and think it comes down
to that I have no enhanced controller on my computer and thats what my
computer is saying. Here's what I know and tried:
1. Can't select on/off in BIOS its not an option on my machine
2. Did Dev Man and my four controllers are not the enhanced variety
3. Computer comes with 8 USB Hi speed ports
4. Uninstalled all my controllers and reinstalled and nothing. Messages are
that everything is functioning correctly.
5. Service Pack 2 is installed.
6. The wire I'm using came with the 2.0 external hard drive and the drive is
self powered.
7. The only maint on machine was having a new DVD burner installed last year.
8. Last, the computer is USB 2.0 compatible per the box it came in.

If I need to add the host controlled can it be purchased, downloaded or
what. My last resort is to go back and restore to original and I really don't
want to do that unless its the only recourse. I just see bad things happening
by doing that.

Check for both Controller and BIOS drivers for the system. Look through
the available USB2 patches, etc. here:

I'm reading this at work but will check it out later at home. Starnge that my
bios does not list of give an option for host controller and usb. Its almost
like its a closed bios system, very limited.

A lot of the stuff on the page you refered to is outdated. For example one
article refers to loading SP1 and you can't do that anymore. Another discuses
that Windows does not support or furnish USB drivers and that was true in
2002 but those drivers are part of SP2 now so that web page is very old.
Sorry.
