Hi (I am not sure where to post sorry for cross post in advance)

I have a situation here.

We have NT4 domain called ABC (for example) and we have new company name
that is ABCD (also an example). I am trying to figure out best way to
migrate. In the NT4 ABC domain our PDC is also a file server (yes I know
it's a horrible thing to do it was done by previous net admins). I've got a
way around this now. I will run calcs and edit all priviledges on the files
to allow admin account full access, then I will use robocopy to transfer
files over to the new server. I've tested this and it works. Robocopy
appears to retain permissions on NTFS level.

There is also and AD domain called ABCD.com in which is our exchange 2000
server. There is full trust relationship between the two. I want to
consolidate them into one.

I have two parts question. If I am to consolidate them into ABC.com will I
be able to setup exchange server with (e-mail address removed) emails? I think this
should be ok but I am not 100 % sure I can see a few possible problems with
this. If I am to consolidate them into ABCD.com can I rename the domain
without having to rejoin the users?

I guess what I am really asking is just how far up the creek am I in this
situation? Can i simply transfer files, turn off the PDC promote next BDC to
PDC and run win2k upgrade on it, and while upgrading can I change domain
name to ABCD.com? Or should I go with ABC.com but how is my exchange going
to fit in or should I got with ABC.com and rename the domain after the fact
and if I do that will I have to rejoin all my user computers to the new
domain even tho I've just ran an upgrade?

Yes I know it's messed up.

Thanks in advance for help.

Daniel
