This Folder is what my two questions are about. On my rig, it is the first
folder under Windows :
______________________________________________________
X:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$

Size on disk: 275 MB

Contains: 1,229 Files, 296 Folders

Created: Thursday March 24, 2005

Attributes: Read only (greyed check) & Hidden (Full check)

Folder names range from KB873333 To KB932168
_________________________________________________________

Looks like uninstall files I guess.

The question is, (you know what I'm gonna say),

Can I DELETE this folder to regain the 275 megs ?

And, ... if I can delete it, what can't I do any more,
because of deleting it ?

Thanks a lot for an answer from someone who knows that their answer is
correct please.

No don't delete it. It's needed for future updates.

I came back in from navigating the simplicity thru the back yard, and just
got your reply, thanks much Sir, I appreciate your time.

If you wouldn't mind amusing me, would you happen to know, what would be the
exact result of deleting the folder ?

Would it just foul up the future updating process ?,

or would the rig become unstable ?

Are you really the Rock, the real Rock ? :)

The offical party line is that you should NOT delete this folder. It's
purpose is to hold the latest versions of updated system files, and all of
MS's hotfix installers are SUPPOSED to double-check that they are not
installing a version that is EARLIER than these (if, for example, you were
to re-apply a earlier hotfix that wants to install a now-superceeded
version). Now, the latest version is already in the standard loacation
(\system32, as well as in \dllcache), and installers shouldn't overwrite a
dll w/ an earlier version anyway, so why we need yet another copy I don't
really get, but that's just me...I suppose it may have to do
co-dependencies, but that, too, is not my field...

there's is an offical MS KB artical out there about it, goog-hoo for
hf_mig...

Just don't delete it. If you do, you will be required to walk
the plank into a sea of sharks...in other words TROUBLE.

I don't know first hand what the outcome would be for deleting it. Foul up
on a future update maybe. As to your last question, not sure you mean by
the real Rock.
