hey where'd my sound go?

D

DAN COLODNEY

all of a sudden it seems that i get no sound when playing a CD in my CD
drive. i did last week but now not. did i make any changes in anything? yes.
i was getting spotty, on/off sound and someone told me to reset my CD from
digital to analog. i did and it seemed to make no difference. i can play
music from MP3's on my hard drive (i.e hear sound) but not CD's.
incidentally, i put a CD in my DVD drive and it played fine ... that is,
until after two tracks my computer froze and i had to press the power button
to off it. what gives with my CD sound? thanks, dan

try the following

1 - Control Panel, system, hardware, CD drives,
properties, make sure device is running properly

2 - Open CPU check to see if your sound card is seated
well in the PCI slot, check all connections. This is
simple.

3 - How old is card or PC, and or sound card as new or old
could be shot

4 try letting windows reinstall sound card drivers, do
that in same place as step one

happy Holidays

You may not have an analog audio cable between the CD drive and the
sound chip/card on your PC.

well here's some new info. i uninstalled RealOne Player and instead,
installed Windows Media 9 Player. now my CD's play BUT -- the sound keeps
going on and off. sometimes it plays for several minutes and then it'll
just go off. i don't know if my CD is set for analog or digital now and
don't remember how to find out? neither do i know what it SHOULD be set
for? help?
