Hex Workshop and a Data Inspector bug that I cant get rid of

Hex Workshop 3.x used to work for me, until one day (can't remember
what happened), the Data Inspector display nothing but ?m*two
squares*_*two squares again* , and this both for the titles and the
values.

Upgrading to 4.23 didnt change anything, that's why I am clueless.
Anyone knows what to fix? If not, does anyone know an hex editor which
has a similar feature as the Data Inspector?

You did uninstall 3.x before you installed 4.23 ?.

Good question. I'm not sure, but I think I remember that the 4.23
installer launched the 3.x uninstaller before it actually installed it.
Anyways, in the Windows thing that displays the software to uninstall,
only 4.23 is listed.
