Hew PC Turning it on/Off w/Vista

Sadly, I have had windows 98 for far too long. I just got an HP w/Vista. When
it is running "normally", there is a blue light on the power button for both
the monitor and the PC. After I leave it for a few hours, there is a yellow
light on the monitor, and NO LIGHT on the PC. I try moving the mouse-nothing
happens. I push the "half moon button" that is the "sleep " button for the
PC, and nothing happens. I have had to go underneath the computer, and turn
off all power (in the power strip) and it resets-and then works fine. This
may be THE MOST MORONIC question--but how do I get my great new computer to
turn on when there are no lights, and the power hasn't even been turned OFF??
I haven't had the nerve to call any help lines...but I'm hoping, anonymously,
that someone could help me here. I am frustrated-and I know that it isn't
good for the computer to just cut off the power, without going through a
proper shut down process. Whats the scoop with this??

You may try hitting the power button and see if that brings it back to life.
Someone else in here may have a better Idea though.

Thanks G.E.--I did try that--and nothing happened. Its very weird. What I did
just do was go into the control panel, and change my power options, so that
the computer NEVER goes to "sleep", unless, of course, I do that myself.
We'll see if this works.
Thank you for your input. I TRULY appreciate it!!

Have you tried hitting the enter key? I also just got a new HP Vista
desktop. I think you're in sleep mode and you just need to wake it up.

I strongly suggest that you read the manual to see how the power options
work with your particular computer. Different companies set things up in
different way. They may even be using proprietary hardware/software to
manage the power. You will never know until you research the manual and the
company web site.

There is always the phone option if all else fails.

Yup--I hit the enter key, then the escape key--waitied a few-wiggled the
mouse again-hit the sleep key--there were no lights-no sounds...it has all
been just bizarre. Keep the suggestions coming though! I really appreciate
them!!
