Hello All,

Usually just a lurker here but I have a client with a problem and it
is affecting our ability to get an installation done !

- Client has Sony Vaio desktop - came with XP OEM installed
- Some numbnutz company before us "downgraded" the box to 98
- Now I need to get it back to XP...

But I can find NO disks, I don't think Sony included a XP disk, but I
do have the product key, I found it on the back of the machine. I
wrote Sony but who knows how long it will take them handle this
request !

Any suggestions ? Does Sony stash stuff in a folder or something ?

TIA - Sean

My Sony Vaio came with rebuild CDs for all installed software, including the
OS. You may be able to use another OEM CD with the key from the back of the
box to get XP installed depending on how old the box is while waiting for
Sony to respond.

Use any OEM CD with the clients Product Key. Windows won't be
BIOS-Locked to the system anymore, so you'll have to activate the new
installation. I "accidentally" triggered activation on a Gateway that
was BIOS-locked and it activated over the internet without any problems.
