Helvetica Font types over itself

G

George Wilson

I am assisting a customer using Powerpoint 2002 on a
Windows XP system. Sometimes when the presentation is
viewed the Helvetica text stacks up in one space and types
over itself. When the font is changed to Ariel it looks
fine and has no more issues. If it gets changed back to
Helvetica is starts having issues again. Does PowerPoint
have issues with this font or is it possibly a corrupt
font or other issue?
TIA
George.

George,
Is Helvetica installed on the system? Sounds like you are trying to use a
font that was embedded but which the presentation creator did not have full
rights to use. You may have to choose another font instead of Helvetica. (To
make the change quickly, you should check out Format --> Replace Fonts)

I've run into this twice this morning already. We are
getting pushed the IE 6 SP1 patch and that appears to be
common to both systems I have seen this on. When I go to
change the font in the text box, Helvetica has a ? in
front of it instead of a TT. Does the ? mean it is no
longer installed? Might the IE6 upgrade be making it
unavailable?

Yes, the ? means that it is not installed. I don't know that the IE6 upgrade
would cause it to go away. You might try getting a new copy of the font and
re-installing it on the machines you need it on. (Providing, of course, that
you have permission to install it.)
