HelpSvc.exe Uses Big Time CPU

I have the problem described in MSKB 839017:

"Help and Support causes Windows XP to stop responding"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;839017.

The problem persists even though I have Service Pack 2. A search of the web reveals that this is a common problem, even after SP 2 is installed. My question is: Where do I go from here? It seems as I have two choices:

1. Gut the Help and Support Center and rebuild it from scratch. (There are clear directions for this on the web.)
or
2. Apply the hotfix described in the MSKB article, even though I already have SP 2.

Which of these would you recommend? Or, if there are other ideas for solving this problem, I'd appreciate knowing them.

Many thanks for your help.
