I have been trying to email my pictures to friends and family but I don't
know how to set up this microsoft mail.

You set it up the same way you probably did Outlook Express.
Tools - Accounts - Add

Enter the settings required to access your existing POP or IMAP (no http,
like Hotmail) email account.

What email method did you use before?
Who provides your email service? Or to ask that question another way,
what is the part of your email address after the @ symbol?
Your mail provider will typically have a web page that shows how to
set up an email program. If you need more help, tell us the name of
your email service provider.
