I have a Dell inspiron 600m my computer is not reading the dvd burner.
its a Nec DVD+-Rw ND-6650a. I have downloaded the driver to operate the dvd
drive. but i cant install it could any one help me please

Usually xp does'nt use or need the driver(s),what it may need is the firmware
download.Go to the dvd mfg web site for downloads, not dell, nec. If all
fails,open
device mgr, expand the dvd tree,R.click on the device, select uninstall,do not
restart, exit device mgr, exit xp,power off.Move the dvd connection to another

Roy, I presume the DVD was operating normally when you received the computer
from Dell? If it was and the computer is still within the guarantee period
contact dell before you start fiddling. I know the Dell help line leaves a
lot to be desired (personal experience) but if it is a hardware defect
(within guarantee period) Dell is the only place that you get a replacement
item. Could the problem be with the DVD read/write software?
