HELP!!!!

I have just recently bought a new xp computer i am trying to install some
software for the children but every time i try to run them i keep getting up
a window with 16 bit windows subsystem and inside it saying
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\AUTOEXEC.NT.The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. I have already put a couple of the
same sort of software on the computer but today this just keeps happening
what have i done wrong????? Can anyone help me
