RUNNING EXE FILES

Hi,
When I'm trying to install some programs in the XP Home
Edition or run an exe file already in the system I'm
getting this message
"16 BIT WINDOWS SUBSYSTEM"
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.THE SYSTEM FILE IS NOT
SUITABLE FOR RUNNING MS-DOS AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS
APPLICATIONS. CHOOSE 'CLOSE' TO TERMINATE THE APPLICATION.

HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?PLS HELP.
