I have an XP system that had an error, it was froze up in a program, when I
rebooted the xp logo screen just kept scrolling across. I powered down the
system and now I get a blinking cursor, and then a message saying "Reboot and
select proper boot device, or insert boot media"

When I press ctrl+alt+delete same message appears.

It sounds like you've lost the drive identifier. Can you boot from a CD or
floppy? If so, and you still cannot see the C drive, that's the problem.

Open your CMOS settings (system settings, a key you press during bootup) and
see if the C drive is listed or not. You can also make your CD drive or
floppy drive a bootable device from there.

If you can get booted and can see the C drive, then there's something else
wrong.

Do you run virus and spyware protection?

See what else you can figure out and come back with the details & someone
will likely be able to take a shot at your problem. Include a descrip of
your system.

POP,

Yes we run Symantec Corporate, no Spyware protection however This computer
simply runs our security badge system. It had some type of error when I went
in to look at it this morning with diskeeper lite.

I clicked ok on the error mesage and the system froze up. After about 5
minutes I just manually powered it down because it was stuck on saving your
settings. Then once I booted it up again, the XP logo just kept scrolling
across, I shut down again, same result, then finally got the massge it's
displaying now.

Where is the CMOS settings? You mean the BIOS?

Sounds like your hard drive may have joined the dearly departed.

Boot up the computer and go into the BIOS setup. Use the "autodetect
hard drives" section in the BIOS setup to verify that it can find the
drive.

If the hard drive cannot be detected then this is a "hands on" job for
a hardware repair technician.

Good luck
